ATP/ADP — The Energy Metabolism

Every action in a governed system consumes resources. Web4Web4Open governance ontology for trust-native entity interactions models this explicitly through ATPAllocation Transfer PacketCharged resource packet — an entity's capacity to act/ADPAllocation Discharge PacketDischarged packet with delivery confirmation — record of work done— Allocation Transfer Packets and Allocation Discharge Packets.

The names are deliberately biological. Like the molecules that carry energy in every living cell:

ATPAllocation Transfer PacketCharged resource packet — an entity's capacity to act (Allocation Transfer Packet)— A charged packet representing allocated resources ready for use. An entity'sATPAllocation Transfer PacketCharged resource packet — an entity's capacity to act budget is its capacity to act. Actions consume ATPAllocation Transfer PacketCharged resource packet — an entity's capacity to act.

ADPAllocation Discharge PacketDischarged packet with delivery confirmation — record of work done (Allocation Discharge Packet)— A discharged packet representing consumed allocation with delivery confirmation. When work is performed, ATPAllocation Transfer PacketCharged resource packet — an entity's capacity to act becomes ADPAllocation Discharge PacketDischarged packet with delivery confirmation — record of work done— carrying a record of what was done, who benefited, and what resources were consumed.

The cycle:

  1. Entity receives ATPAllocation Transfer PacketCharged resource packet — an entity's capacity to act (resource allocation)
  2. Entity performs work (ATPAllocation Transfer PacketCharged resource packet — an entity's capacity to act becomes ADPAllocation Discharge PacketDischarged packet with delivery confirmation — record of work done, resources consumed)
  3. Value creation is verified (did the work produce value?)
  4. ADPAllocation Discharge PacketDischarged packet with delivery confirmation — record of work done is recharged to ATPAllocation Transfer PacketCharged resource packet — an entity's capacity to act (fresh allocation, metadata cleared)

This creates a bio-inspired energy metabolism where:

  • Every action has a measurable cost (ATPAllocation Transfer PacketCharged resource packet — an entity's capacity to act consumption)
  • Value creation is what recharges the system (ADPAllocation Discharge PacketDischarged packet with delivery confirmation — record of work done to ATPAllocation Transfer PacketCharged resource packet — an entity's capacity to act)
  • Hoarding is discouraged (ATPAllocation Transfer PacketCharged resource packet — an entity's capacity to act flows through work, not accumulation)
  • Attack is expensive (creating fake identities requires real ATPAllocation Transfer PacketCharged resource packet — an entity's capacity to actstaking)
  • The system self-regulates (entities that create value get more capacity; entities that don't, deplete)

For enterprises, this provides something no current framework offers: a quantitative, continuous measure of whether an AIArtificial IntelligenceSystems that learn, adapt, and act with real-world impact agent is creating or destroying value, operating in real time at the speed of the agent.
